Currently on sale: Hybrid Merino T
I'm sure many of you are wondering what it's like to wear it while running . I thought I'd write a review of wearing it while trail running and road running in cold weather.
I wore the Hybrid Merino T ( hereinafter referred to as Merino T ) when I participated in the Izu Trail Journey AA28K at the end of last year.
Although the weather was good on the day, there was a strong wind, so the temperature on the ridge was expected to feel below zero, so I started by wearing a Meri- T (which also served as a base layer) as a base, and a jacket that was both warm and breathable on top of that.
When I started running, my body temperature rose and I started to sweat, but when I reached the ridge, the wind was strong as predicted, and since I was wearing a jacket that was more breathable than a wind shell, if I didn't keep moving, I would cool down to the core of my body. However, since I was wearing a Merit-T with low thermal conductivity as the base, I didn't feel any loss of performance due to the cold.
The wind is strong but the views are amazing!
Once I finished the ridge section, I took off my jacket and continued on in a meridian T-shirt and arm sleeves.
Although it was a little chilly in the shade, I didn't feel cold from sweat and was comfortable. I'm not the type to sweat easily, and thanks to the wind, I was able to finish the run without feeling any discomfort from sweat on my back, even with my backpack on.
During a race, there will be times when you will need to increase your speed, so we recommend wearing layers that won't trap heat!
In mid- February , I took part in a practice run along the shore of Lake Biwa held by a team I am grateful to.
The weather forecast was for clear skies, but when we entered Shiga Prefecture, it started snowing... As we got closer to the meeting place, everything around us became white.
Scenery from the starting point
You can choose your preferred distance: full, 30km, or half. Choose the half without hesitation!
Before the start, the snow had stopped, but the wind was cold and sometimes strong... I thought about wearing a Meri T-shirt (which also doubles as a base layer) and a wind shell to protect against the cold, but I thought I would get too hot, so I started the race wearing a long T-shirt that is both warm and breathable.
Although I felt chilly when I started running, perhaps because I was going at a good pace, my body started to warm up after about 2km and it felt great!
It was a practice session, but the participants were moving at a fast pace, and each person was progressing steadily...
As time passed, my lower body became so numb that I wondered if I was even wearing pants ( lol ) , since my lower body wasn't kept warm, but my upper body was comfortable from start to finish.
In cold weather, we tend to think that putting on a wind shell to block the draft will help prevent catching a cold, but when racing or doing high-intensity training in cold weather, it's recommended to wear a low-thermal conductivity Merit T-shirt as a base layer and combine it with a warm, breathable jacket!
This is an example of extreme usage, so I don't know if it will be helpful ( lol )
